I will try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but I can’t guarantee that, so just be warned!

I just completed Among the Sleep for the PS4. I’m all about finding good indie games and always on the lookout for solid new titles to play and for just $20 (most places) and being a physical game (I hate digital downlods) on the PS4 you really can’t go wrong with this one.

Among the Sleep takes place through the eyes of a toddler. You are on the search through your nightmares for your mother. You follow clues in search of your memories and avoid shadow monsters in order to find her. You follow the sound of her voice and have to solve some puzzles along the way to continue unlocking clues in your quest to get back to the safety of her arms, or so you think. Armed with nothing more than a comforting teddy bear to hug, you have to crawl through dark closets, forests and your creepy haunted house to get back to your mom.

All in all, this is a beautiful game with a solid (but short) story. I want to say it took me about 4-6 hours to complete. Despite that, it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. There were more than a few times where I felt my heart racing and even a couple of times where I jumped.

While the game is certainly suspenseful, it is not that challenging and as I said, very short to complete. I think I only died maybe 2-3 times, which is not much at all in any type of game, but the controls and options were more than solid and the story keeps you intrigued.

I strongly recommend not reading any walk throughs or watching any guides because it will likely ruin the few surprises the game has in store. No matter how stuck you may think you are just keep exploring and trying to move or open everything in your path. Most guides and walk throughs will no doubt spoil something that game has in store for you and with it being so short, that will be very frustrating and disappointing.

The ending, well lets just say, this game takes a quick turn for the unexpected at the very end and it leaves you scratching your head and wishing their was more. I still can’t believe the developers pulled that off and I will say, while completely taking me by surprise, it was very well done because I was completely caught off guard, and full of thoughts and emotions and that rarely happens from a video game.

So anyone looking for a short, suspenseful break from your typical PS4 sports title or shooter, definitely go pick yourself up a copy of Among the Sleep and I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ending when you complete it.

Until next time…
