Well, the roster is pretty much set at this point for the trip to Kansas City. Barring an unexpected emergency/accident, which wouldn’t be totally surprising for this organization, here is who we should expect to see come Sunday evening lining the baselines for the festivities and National Anthem.
Starting Pitchers: No surprises here
Matt Harvey – Jacob deGrom – Noah Syndergaard – Steven Matz – Bartolo Colon
Relievers: Happy for Verrett and Anderson, but not many surprises here
Logan Verrett – Jim Henderson – Antonio Bastardo – Jerry Blevins – Addison Reed – Hansel Robles
Starting Infielders: As expected
- Travis d’Arnaud – Lucas Duda – Neil Walker – David Wright – Asdrubal Cabrera
Starting Outfielders: Duh
- Curtis Granderson – Yoenis Cespedes – Michael Conforto
Bench: You Camp-b(ell) serious, otherwise as expected
- Wilmer Flores – Eric Campbell – Alejandro De Aza – Juan Lagares – Kevin Plawecki
The only true surprise here in my eyes is the inclusion of Eric Campbell. We have seen soup far too often the last few years to have any expectation that he will contribute much to this team. I understand we need David Wright insurance but that is why Wilmer Flores is so valuable. To me, it makes much more sense to see a kid like Reynolds get a shot than Campbell, who is basically another version of Nieuwenhuis or Recker, great team first player, without the skills to justify being on the actual team.
