“The Mets are 48-44, and I think they believe the worst of 2015 is behind them, based on what people are saying around baseball.

I’m hearing the Mets are working to acquire at least one role player and – if things fall in to place – a marquee-type guy as well, with one playing shortstop and the other able to play outfield. To do it, I think they’ll trade any pitcher not named Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard or Matz. Yes, I think they’d move Zack Wheeler (who teams still want, and who can be dealt even though he’s on the DL). They are also seeing interest in Michael Fulmer, Rafael Montero, Jon Niese and Bartolo Colon. I also expect to hear rumors involving position prospects Brandon Nimmo and (if they’re getting back a bonafide shortstop) Gavin Cecchini. I think they’d consider moving 19-year-old SS Amed Rosario, but would prefer to keep him. Michael Conforto is essentially untouchable, as is Kevin Plawecki (because Travis d’Arnaud keeps injuring himself).

The current roster has done an amazing job surviving a very difficult and challenging last six weeks. The players and management expect to eventually get back David Wright and d’Arnaud. And, once they get through the next 13 games (six of which are against the Nationals) they have a fairly favorable schedule the rest of the way…”

via Mets are looking to add 1-2 players, have prospects to deal | Metsblog.

Matt Cerrone is right on with this one. As all Mets fans have come to realize, there is no point in trading the big 4 pitchers, especially for the return that’s been rumored. Guys like Colon, Niese and Montero having value, however, changes the scope of the possibile acquisitions just a bit. While I am not a fan of trading Nimmo, I understand the possibility with Conforto knocking on the door and the same goes for Cecchini, with Rosario in the wings. While I would love for the team to acquire both a role and marquee player, it would be more of a pleasant suprise than an expectation at this point and just seeing any type of deal done to bring in a bat should be seen as a positive at this point.
