WILMER WALK OFF! The Mets (26-21) defeated the Phillies (19-29) in nice, easy fashion tonight in 10 innings 5-4. Oh wait, they did the exact opposite of that. The game flew by, for 7 innings, as deGrom kicked it into cruise control against a Phillies team trying to find their identity as they transition from the elder statesmen to the future. That nice, easy, fast-paced game was quickly eradicated when Terry Collins sent deGrom out for the 8th with a 3-0 lead and nearly 100 pitches. He gave up two hits, was yanked, and four relievers managed to not only ruin deGrom’s win, but give the Phillies the lead. The Mets fought back, took the game into extras and eventually took the game, thanks to Wilmer F’n Flores. The Mets keep doing what they need to do, which is beat up on the bad teams as they look to stay relevant in the NL East deep into September.

Hair-we-goMichael Cuddyer is heating up. He has 7 RBI’s and nearly .300 over his last 10 games. Maybe the drop to the 5th spot in the lineup was what he needed to awaken from his season long stupor. He needs to keep this going and then some to give the Mets offense some support as they look to backup their dominant starting pitching.

Hair-we-go7.1 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, 9 strikeouts. Yup, thats Jacob deGrom’s line as he lowered his ERA to 2.71 and that should be good enough to earn a win on most nights and for most teams. Not tonight and not these Mets. You really feel for these Mets pitchers. Unless they throw shutouts, they must really feel like they have no chance at winning ballgames.

Hair-we-goWilmer Flores. The guy keeps brushing off all of the doubt and hate and was killed by the BABIP gods tonight, but stayed within himself and hit the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th tonight. Not to  mention, he also tied the game with a big sacrifice fly in the 8th inning tonight. Since May 14th, Flores has played in 13 games where he has batted .280 with 3 home runs, 11 RBI and 5 runs. Most impressive of all of these stats is that he always seems to make contact. He has struck out just 21 times not he season and only 3 times in his last 10 games.
