Forget all the other nonsense that led to the Mets first extra inning game of the season, this game was about one person. Matt Harvey put the New York Mets (23-16) on his back tonight and dominated the NL leading St. Louis Cardinals (25-13) for eight innings. He put up zeroes and completely took over this ball game en route to the Mets third straight win. Except he didn’t factor into the win because thanks to a piss poor arm on Granderson, Familia blew his first save and another Harvey win. Matt was so good tonight that the one run from the offense should have been more than enough, but because these are the Mets, it wasn’t. They needed 2 runs over 14 innings. Speaking of that one run, what the hell kind of a shift did the Cardinals put on against Duda with a runner on third? They had Carpenter hold on Granderson at third base while the rest of the infield played on the left side and in.
Matt Harvey did the damn thing tonight. He came out and said, “Hey offense, you worked hard against the Brewers this weekend, take a night off cuz I got this!” Harvey dominated the Cardinals for 8 innings, scattering 6 hits, walking 1 and striking out 9. He lowered his minuscule ERA to 1.98 to go along with his 0.91 WHIP. Harvey has now had 4 starts this year allowing 0 runs, and two straight not giving up a run and getting two no decisions. The Dark Knight threw 105 pitches on the night and has thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings, yet doesn’t have a win to show for his efforts. It is amazing to think that this guy can get any better, but he’s still so young that it’s possible he can. Thank god the Mets eventually came back and won, despite the Familia blown save, because Harvey pitched his ass off for the Mets tonight.
