IMG_0440After last night’s game, the Mets have called up second baseman Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas. The team has not yet announced who will be heading out to Las Vegas but I have to assume it would be Goedell or Leathersich from the bullpen.

IMG_0438-2This appears to be a short term move to upgrade their defense up the middle until Wright returns from injury in the next week or two. Campbell has been overexposed playing everyday at the hot corner and will slide back to his better suited super utility role. The logical maneuver to get Dilson in the lineup would be to shift Daniel Murphy to third base and insert Herrera at second, where an automatic improvement to the defense would occur.

IMG_0438-2Dilson Herrera (21) was acquired along with Vic Black from the Pirates when the Mets traded Marlon Byrd and John Buck two years ago. Herrera was hitting .375 in 19 games for the 51’s. Herrera played in 18 games with the Mets toward the end of last season. He batted .220 with a .303 OBP and surprised us all with three home runs and 11 RBI.
