Colon continued to baffle Father Time as he moved to 3-0 on the young season, in-turn helping the Mets win their 6th in a row (5-0 at home). The Mets are 8-3 on the season and absolutely rolling, which is great to see as it seemed to coincide with them stepping up when the Captain went down with an injury.
Colon gave up just one run in 7 innings (another Stanton bomb) and contributed with another RBI, his 2nd straight game with an RBI. He continued to display impeccable control and the straightest poker face I’ve ever seen. Getting his final out in the 7th looked exactly the same as when he gave up a solo homerun in the first to Stanton.
Juan Lagares received his first gold glove award pre-game and took the gold with him into centerfield today. Not that Colon ever pitched into trouble, but one Juanderful catch after another certainly helped.
Mejia and Parnell who? Familia nailed down his 5th save of the week in this game. He made Stanton and Prado (2 top hitters in the game) look completely lost at the plate, and pitched around a Morse single to shut the door on the Marlins. The most impressive part of his outing may have been on the last out when he cleanly fielded a comebacker and fired a strike to first, something he struggled with at times in the past.
