iAssuming that the weather cooperates, this afternoon marks the triumphant return to the mound of Matt Harvey; The Dark Knight, The Savior, The Man The Myth The Legend, or whatever else you would like to call him… whichever you choose, HE’S BACK!

3 strikes of Harvey’s return to the mound:

IMG_0330-1Can Harvey harness his emotions, stay within himself, and continue the control displayed in his dominant spring, pretty much picking up where he left off nearly a year and a half ago when he last pitched on a major league mound in a game that counts in the standings?

IMG_0330-1How long will Harvey’s leash be, start 1, in his return from Tommy John surgery? The Mets originally said they will allow him 90-100 pitches, but these days their word means nothing more then a release of hot air.

Can the Mets bats awaken to support their risen knight? They have been more than quiet the first 2 games in Washington, and they face yet another ace in Stephen Strasburg this afternoon. This would be a nice time for the bats to show up north with the team, following quite the power display they put on during the spring.

I, along with the rest of the Mets faithful, cannot wait for this afternoon’s game. I still remember the last time these two young aces went head to head at Citi Field, which ended with Harvey leaving the mound to chants of “Harvey’s Better!”. Harvey may not be better right now, after missing all of 2014 while Strasburg led the NL in strikeouts, but as we saw in the spring, the stuff is still there and as long as the elbow holds up, we should be in for quite the show.
